A single East Austin street can have a hundred year old bungalow next to a house finished last year, and the two move very differently. Older homes often have narrow hallways and original hardwood we protect with runners, while new builds have wider doors but sometimes tighter driveways.
We ask a few extra questions about the house style during the estimate so the crew arrives with the right gear rather than guessing on the day.
Alley access and parking
Some of the older East Austin lots load easier from an alley than from the street out front. If your house has alley access, tell us during the walk-through and we will plan the truck route around it.
Street parking can be tight on the busier corridors, so we ask about permits the same way we would for a downtown building.
Weekday and weekend timing
East Austin's restaurant and shopping streets get loud and busy by early evening, so a morning start usually keeps the crew clear of foot traffic and makes parking easier to hold onto for the whole job.
Summer afternoons here are no cooler than anywhere else in the city, so the same early start and shaded staging rules apply.
Growing families and first houses
A lot of our East Austin work is a first house purchase after years of renting nearby, which usually means moving furniture that was sized for an apartment into rooms that finally have space to spread out. We are happy to help figure out what fits where on the day rather than leaving everything stacked in the living room.
Multi-generational households are common here too, and those moves often involve two sets of furniture merging into one house, which we plan for with extra time on the estimate.
Murals, art, and personal touches
East Austin homes tend to carry a lot of personal art, from framed prints to larger canvas pieces bought from a nearby studio, and these get their own protective handling rather than being wrapped in with general furniture. Corner protectors and flat crating keep them from bending or cracking on the truck.
If a piece is especially large or oddly shaped, mention it during the walk-through so the crew brings the right size crate rather than improvising with moving blankets alone.
